rabbit: A Modern Fairy Tale

Another project that I've been working on for a good two years, although I was moving rather slowly with it, and only just a couple weeks ago picked up momentum on it.

rabbit is A Modern Fairy Tale that revolves around a Prince and a Princess. Both lived in Armania(A fictional Europen country) with their parents. Prince Adiar was many years older that his sister the Princess and was often away at a prestigious school. The Princess had been cursed at her birth, and while the nature of her curse was never known to any but a few, she was kept in the western wing of the palace, confinded to indoors for most of her childhood. She rarely met her brother the Prince, or her parents the King and Queen. Her life revolved around books and a wistfullness to feel sunlight on her face.

When the Princess was fourteen and the Prince twenty two, a infamous Dancer came to the palace. Dancers were international guild of entertainers who specialized in Dancing, Singing, and playing Instruments, and often were used as spies in times past. They were often known under codenames, usually those of flowers, and this Dancer was the beautiful Snapdragon, Almira Byrne. She was offered a long term engament to stay in Armania to Dance for the King and accepted.

The offer was not without strings however, and when the beautiful SnapDragon rebuffed the King's advances and fell in love instead with the Captain of the King's Quard, Braeden Wroff, the King's dangerously balanced sanity fell farther and farther downward.

It was during this time that the Princess experiance sunlight for the first time in her life, as she eluded her guardian and snuck outside. Delighted and somewhat fearful of this new experiance, the Princess came upon a small pond on the grounds. Falling to her knees, the young girl splashed her hands in the pond, an experiance she'd only read of before.

It was as the Princess played in the water that the King came by, out on the grounds in search or something. He came upon the Princess knee deep in the pond, competely unmindful of her skirts that were rather soaked by now, and he fell into a dreadful rage. He pulled the Princess from the pond, and ordered her binded and taken inside, where he would see to her punishment. The Captian of the Guard did as he was told, and took the Princess indoor to the west wing, and stood guard over her, awaiting his orders.

As night fell, the King entered, two siringes in his hands, fallowed by the Queen. He ordered the Captain to sit the Princess up. As the Captain followed his Kings orders, the King knelt next to the Princess, and as he injected the conents of the two siringes into her, one into each arm, he whispered into her ear, "To everyone, Selas means trintiy. To me, Selas only means that I'll have to kill you three times over. Your own name spells out your fate."

As the King finished he stood back, and ordered the Captain to pull his gun.

"Shoot her and leave." With these words, the King left as the Captain pulled the trigger.


Eventualy, the blood stopped flowing from the wound on her forehead. The next day when they came to bury the Princess, she was gone.

A national manhunt began all over Armania in order to find the Princess, or at least her body. The Prince came home, and learned that his little sister the Princess had been kidnapped by terrorists. He led the manhunt to find the Princess and eventualy, she was found.

She's escaped to a small city that lived in the shadow of the captial, and a kind couple had taken the little girl in, with not idea as to her identiy. The Prince reconized his sister one day, and called out to her, only to recive a blank, fearful stare. He rushed to her and swept her up in his arms, glad for her apparent safety. When the king heard the news, he ordered the Captain to kill the couple, to bring the Princess to the Captial and to wait for the King's arrival.

The Prince was overjoyed at his sister's safety and agreed to wait at the Captial. He was puzzled at his sister's lack of joy or even reconition of him, but belived that it was due to shock, and partly becuase they'd never be close. The Captain's smoking habbit in the meanwhile, increased at a dramatic and somewhat frightening rate and was commented upon by a few subordients. The Captain also became increasingly antagonistic towards the Prince.

As night once again fell, the Captain finially lost his temper, frightened a good deal of his subordeints who'd been commenting upon his smoking habbit, and set up guard outside of the Princess' room. When the Prince came around to check on his sister, he found a surly Captain polluting the air. In the arguement that followed, for neither of the two had ever enjoyed the others company, the Captain told the Prince that he might have as well been the one to put the gun the the Princess' head this time, but bringing his sister back.

When the Prince learned of the murder of the Princess, all reason was lost. A frantic resuce followed, in which the Prince escaped with his sister from the captial and Armania, with the Captain and Snapdragon in tow.

The Captain was declared a kidnapper on the morning news the next day, with the Dancer Snapdragon as his accommplice, and that both must be shot on sight, and the Prince and Princess returned to their loving parents and home. Since then, it has been a rabbit chase; with the four just barely staying a step ahead of those hunting them down.

Almira Byrne
Age: 20
Sex: Female
Hair: Pale blue
Eyes: Dark blue
Height: 5’8
Info: A somewhat infamous Dancer, Almira was at the top of her game and was a highly sought after entertainer. She accepted a very generous offer from the King of Aemina for a long term engagement, and it was there that she met Braeden. The Dancer has been referred to as the Ice Princess, in regards to her coloring and calm personality, as well as her breakthrough role in the dance of The Ice Princess. She’s calm, unflappable at times and serene. However, as she’s still rather young herself, she can be childish and temperamental, and often gets into fights with Braeden. She is in love with the Captain, but cannot stand his cruelty that comes out at times, and has the romantic notion that she can change him. She’s very kind to Selas, and requards her as a little sister of sorts, and at times, passes her off as her apprentice. Almire also doesn’t know the story behind Selas’s death.


Braeden Worff
Age: 30
Sex: Male
Hair: Red
Eyes: Brown
Height: 6’1
Info: An ambitious young man and a hard worker, Braeden was able to work his way through the ranks of Armina’s militarily to becoming a personal guard to the King. He’s extremely knowledgeable in the field of computer security and was considered to be one of the brightest potentials within the military for promotions to General or higher. He’s rather laid back and relaxed for having the high pressured job of working so closely with the King, and at times his somewhat callous attitude towards life and people has served him well. Although he can be rather cruel at times, he also shows surprising kindness at times, and he does carry guilt for having killed Selas for the first time. (Although she creeps him out to no end, and he still hasn’t figured out why she’s still alive.)

Adair Amaris
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5’10
Info: the elder brother of Selas, Adair has been referenced to as “an arrogant pomp who wouldn’t know his way out of a paper bag.” Despite this reputation, Adair is a bright young man who brilliant in the field of mathematics and computers. He’s never really known his sister, and suffers from a great deal of guilt that he was unable to prevent her death the first time, and almost killed her again. He reads quite a bit as well, and when he chooses, is quite charming in an offhanded, quite way. He also doesn’t know the full story of Selas’ murder, and the Captain’s part in it, which is mostly for the best. He’s also working on learning what the curse on Selas is, and why she was locked up for so long, and then killed. All that is known is that it has to do with water and sunlight. He also wears contacts, or glasses as his sight is poor.

Selas Amaris
Age: 14
Sex: Female
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Purple
Height: 5’1
Info: Most of the time, Selas is a bright and happy young teenage girl. She reads at an abnormal pace, and tends to read books that deal with the workings of the human brain and behaviors, and fairy tales. She’s rather good at creeping the hell out of people as well, with her intuitive and analyzing remarks. She flourishes in the sunlight, and almost literally dies when locked up. Her relationship with her brother was not close, but as they’re only the run together now, they’ve been slowly growing closer. The bullet the killed her the first time seems to have erased parts of her memory, and has caused her to have moments of unstableness, causing her to make frightening and hunting remarks.
